Our Author Directory

We may be a little biased, but we believe nothing gets pupils more fired up about reading and writing than a visit from an author. And we’re not alone – librarians and teachers all across the country agree than authors visit bring huge benefits to schools.

It doesn’t matter if the author is an international multi-award-winning bestseller, or a local writer who has just published their first book – any visiting author worth their salt can have a real impact on literacy levels in class.

In an effort to encourage schools to bring authors, illustrators, poets and script-writers in as guest speakers, we’ve set up the Start the Story Author Directory – a searchable database of writers who are prepared to come into schools and run events.

You can search by area, audience age, type of event or author type. The directory is only a few weeks old, but already the categories are starting to fill up with creative types from all across the country.

So if you’re looking to get an author in to talk to the whole school, a comic-book artist in to run workshops, or a literary guest in to present some writing awards, you’ll find them in the author directory.
